Robert Keay ThM (Gordon–Conwell), PhD (St Andrews)

Originally from Plymouth, Massachusetts, Robert studied and lectured in New England before completing doctoral work in New Testament at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. 

Robert joined the college in 2005 as Director of Undergraduate Studies (QUB) and Lecturer in New Testament and Theology. Robert’s doctoral work focused on Paul’s self–identity and his current research interests include: the social life of the early Christians, the emergence and development of a uniquely Christ–centered theology in early Christian communities, and the relationship between Christian faith and research in the natural sciences. Robert lives with his wife Jill in Lisburn, where they worship at Lisburn Cathedral.

Ian Dickson BA Hons (Open), PhD (QUB)

Ian joined the staff of BBC in 2004. After studying theology at Romsey House in Cambridge he worked in pastoral ministry for fifteen years before moving into theological education. 

After a short period as a freelance teacher and writer he became a Research Fellow at Cardiff University. At BBC he tutors in Christian Spirituality and Practical Theology and has responsibility for the Access Learning programme. Ian took up the post of Principal in April 2011. His special areas of interest are preaching, ministry and spirituality, theology and intellectual disability. He is married to Yvonne and they have two children, Ross and Amy.

Jacob Thomas MA(Kerala), BD, DTh (Seramp), ThM (Harvard)

Having studied economics in his home state of Kerala, Jacob’s subsequent studies in theology led him to America and the Divinity School at Harvard. 

Following completion of his doctoral studies in missiology, Jacob was appointed as Assistant Professor of Christian Social Ethics at Union Biblical Seminary in Pune, where he also served as Academic Dean. An ordained minister of the Church of South India, Jacob joined the College in 2005 where he teaches and writes in the area of missiology. The author of From Lausanne to Manila: Evangelial Social Thought (ISPCK), Jacob teaches and ministers to  Indian Christians around the world.  He and his wife Elizabeth have three children.

X Team Leader, Education Development

William Ford BA (Durham) MSt (Oxford) PhD (Durham)

William is from England and studied theology at Durham and Oxford. After working for five years as a chartered accountant he returned to Durham for doctoral studies in Old Testament. This work has now been published as God, Pharaoh and Moses (Paternoster). 

In 2006 he started teaching at All Nations Christian College near London, and joined the college in 2009 to teach Old Testament and Hebrew. He is also responsible for co–ordinating the new University of Cumbria degree programme. His research interests are in the area of how to read theologically ‘difficult’ texts.

Karen Fulton MA (Cantab), MTh (London), PhD (Aberdeen)

Born and raised in Northern Ireland, Karen read Classics at Newnham College Cambridge before moving to London where she worked for a computer consultancy. After a number of years in the market place, Karen studied theology at King’s College London specialising in New Testament Studies. 

In 1994, she left London for Kenya and Berea Theological College, where she taught men and women preparing for ministry in the Anglican Church in Kenya and neighbouring countries. Returning to the UK in 2000 to direct the College’s certificate and diploma programs, Karen teaches in New Testament and her current research interests include the writings of Paul and the interface between New Testament studies and principles for contemporary ministry and mission. Karen recently completed her PhD studies, and now co–ordinates the University of Cumbria undergraduate programme. She lives in Saintfield and worships at Fitzroy Presbyterian.

X Women’s Fellowship Co–ordinators

Deirdre Johnston & Lindsey Ile

Deirdre and Lindsey help co–ordinate the Women’s Study Fellowship course at the college, both having had previous first hand experience of BBC! Deirdre previously completed the WSF course herself, and Lindsey studied at BBC on a full–time basis for one semester as part of her studies at Moody Bible Institute. As well as developing the course and overseeing the administrative function, a major part of their role is guiding, assisting and encouraging the 100+ women who are taking the course.

David Stanfield

David is Director of the Centre for Youth Ministry Ireland, and has been involved in youth work for over thirty years.

Before studying Theology, David came from a business background, and worked for DeLorean Cars. He has degrees in Business Studies and Theology, and is currently completing a Masters in Theology through Queen's University. David is also an ordained Minister in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

David is married to Mairisine, who is Minister of First Presbyterian Church in Ballynahinch, where David also serves on the leadership team. They have two teenage sons, Jonathan and Daniel.

 

X Assistant Centre Director

Sharon McKibbin

Sharon joined CYMI in July 2009 after working in a youth homelessness prevention service in Belfast. 

She has a Masters degree in Youth and Community Work, is JNC professionally qualified and has experience working with young people and volunteers in different settings, including church-based youth work.  Sharon assists in the management and delivery of Centre for Youth Ministry courses at CYMI with a primary focus on the degree in youth and community work and practical theology.

Jill Harshaw LLB, PCPLS, MTh (QUB)

Following an early academic background in Law, Jill completed a Master of Theology degree through Queen’s University, Belfast. She teaches Practical Theology, primarily Pastoral Studies, Spiritual Formation and Ecclesiology. Her research interests lie in Theology, Spirituality and Intellectual Disability – she is currently pursing doctoral studies in this area. Jill is a member of the European Society for the Study of Theology and Disability, and the British and Irish Association of Practical Theologians, having presented papers at conferences of both bodies. Jill is married to William, and they have two sons and a daughter.

Geoff Donaldson BA (DeMontfort) BTh (LBC) MTh (QUB)

Originally from Coleraine, Geoff moved to England where he completed a degree in Business Studies with a focus on human resources. 

After completing a theology degree at London Bible College (now London School of Theology) he worked with UCCF for three years. Having been ordained to the Baptist ministry, Geoff pastored an inner–city multi–cultural church in Peckham. Currently he combines his role as Chaplain with being the Pastor of Lambeg Baptist Church. Geoff’s current teaching and research interests include leadership, discipleship and theological education. He and his wife Rosaliene live in Lisburn with their three children, Jessica, Ryan and Lisanne.

Irene Moreland

Irene joined the staff at BBC in 2008, having previously spent 18 years working for United Beach Missions. 

Her role at BBC primarily involves the organisation and co–ordination of student placements, coupled with work within the Education Supprt Team. Irene is married to Wesley and they have two grown–up sons, Mark and Tim and they are members of Malvern Assembly. Outside of college, Irene enjoys needlecraft, watching her son play hockey and working with young people.

Audrey Christie

Audrey joined BBC in 1991. Her role involves assisting with Administration as part of the Community Life Team, and co–ordinating connections with former students of the college. 

Audrey is an elder and Sunday School leader in her own church, Magheragall Presbyterian, and enjoys singing in a ladies’ choir, reading, and all kinds of motorsport.

Catherine McKinley

After studying for a degree in Communication, Advertising and Marketing at the University of Ulster, Catherine spent a year training in Devon as a youth & school’s worker with South West Youth Ministries. 

At the end of that year she returned to Northern Ireland to take up a post with Interserve Ireland as their Youth & Development Worker, where she worked for almost five years. Catherine joined the college in June 2007 to take up the post of Recruitment & Communications Co–ordinator. Her day to day role involves dealing with applications and enquiries, attending recruitment events and co–ordinating marketing, publicity and advertising for the college. She currently lives in Newtownards with her husband Bobby, where they attend Scrabo Hall.

Rosie Kennedy

Rosie joined the college in 2007, having previously worked for an Independent Financial Adviser. 

Rosie assists with the processing of enquiries and applications for full and part time courses as well as other general administration in the I&A office. Rosie lives in Belfast with her husband Steve and their daughter Julia, where they attend Orangefield Presbyterian Church and are involved in the prayer and worship teams. Rosie enjoys music, reading, going for walks and taking Julia to the play park!

Sarah Jane Murphy

Upon graduating from Edinburgh University, Sarah Jane lived in Dallas, Texas six years. There she enjoyed working for the Advancement Department of Dallas Theological Seminary as her husband, Jonathan, completed his PhD studies. They returned to Northern Ireland in 2008, and now attend Newcastle Baptist Church where Jonathan is Pastor. They have 2 children, Sienna and Joshua.

Sarah Jane is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with churches, family and friends of the College.

X Resource Development

Isobel McAuley

Isobel has worked at BBC for 25 years and has seen the college change and develop in many ways during that time. 

Following a significant birthday (!) in February 2009, Isobel now works at BBC on a part–time basis, with specific responsibility for maintaining connections with former students of the college and assisting with the work of the advancement team. Married to Ossie, Isobel worships at Lowe Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she is an elder and has specific responsibility for co–ordinating the church welcome team. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, drinking coffee and playing golf, as well as walking and gardening!

Alan McCormick

Alan joined the staff in 2008, to take up the role of Director of Operations, having previously spent thirty years working in business. 

Alan has primary responsibility for overseeing the college’s operational life, including  the facilities and HR and IT functions.  As part of the college’s Senior Management Team, Alan also has responsibility for assisting with strategic planning for the college. Alan is married to Elizabeth, and has two grown–up daughters, both of whom are currently at university. Alan and Elizabeth worship at Greenwell Street Presbyterian, where he is an elder. Outside of college, Alan enjoys family holidays, reading and music.

Hazel Harris

Hazel has worked at BBC for over 14 years, having previously worked in a bank. 

Her role involves assisting with all aspects of the day to day running of the campus and it’s facilities. Hazel has four grown–up children and lives in Lisburn where she worships at Lisburn Cathedral. She enjoys walking, reading and spending time with friends.

David joined the staff at BBC in 1999, and is responsible for ensuring that staff and students are well fed on a daily basis! 

David is married to Eleanor and they have two grown-up children, and one grand-daughter. Outside of college David enjoys travelling and water-skiing. David and Eleanor are members of Dromore Baptist Church.

Jayne Rosborough

Jayne joined the staff at BBC in 2005, and helps David out in the BBC kitchen. 

Jayne has three sons and is married to Stewart and they are members of Ballynahinch Baptist Church. Outside of college, Jayne enjoys meeting friends,  walking, travelling and entertaining friends.

Dorothy Anderson

Dorothy has worked at BBC in her role as Librarian since 2005, having previously worked in Magee University College and Queen’s University, Belfast. 

Dorothy studied French at Queen’s (BA) and St Andrew’s (B Phil) and Librarianship at Sheffield (MA) University. Dorothy is married to Terry and they have two grown–up sons. They currently live in Finaghy, where they worship at Lowe Memorial Presbyterian. In her free time, Dorothy enjoys reading and spending time with friends.

Caroline Somerville

Caroline has worked part–time at BBC since 2008, in the role of Assistant Librarian. She is studying for an MSc in Information and Library Studies at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. Caroline also has an honours degree in German and French from the University of Manchester and an honours degree in Theology from Queen’s University, Belfast.

Caroline previously worked and studied in Edinburgh for eleven years prior to returning to Northern Ireland. She worships at Lowe Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Helen McGlinchey

Helen has worked at BBC since September 2007, when she took up the role of Receptionist on a part-time basis. 

She has also recently crossed the staff-student divide, as she has joined the Women's Study Fellowship course! Helen is married to Paddy, an ordained Church of England Minister, who now lectures at the Church of Ireland Theological Institute in Dublin. They have three sons, two of whom are at university, and currently live in Finaghy with their youngest son Timothy.

Colette Wright

Colette has worked at the college as a part–time receptionist since 2003. She is married to Brendan with 2 sons and 2 daughters.

She worships at St. Colmans Church, Lambeg. In her spare time she likes cooking, watching nature programmes and spending time with family.

Paul Coulter

Paul lives in Lisburn with his wife, Gar-Ling (from Malaysia), and two young children.

 

Paul studied Medicine at Queen's University Belfast and worked for three years as a junior doctor before leaving medicine to be involved full time in pastoral ministry.  For four years he was Associate Pastor with the Belfast Chinese Christian Church, and was part of the staff team at Glenabbey Church for two years.

 

Paul is currently completing his doctoral studies with the International Christian College (Glasgow) and the University of Aberdeen, which he combines with teaching at BBC and speaking in local churches.

Haddon Wilson

Born and raised in East Belfast,  Haddon has been actively involved in pastoral ministry for over 20 years. He was Pastor of Ballynahinch Baptist Church for 15 years, and is still actively involved there as Pastor Emeritus. He continues to preach and teach on a regular basis, as well as being involved in one-to-one discipleship.

He is married to Betty with a daughter, two sons and ten grandchildren.

Scott Spurlock BA, Mth, MSc, PhD (Edinburgh) FRHistS

Originally from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Scott has lived in the British Isles for over a decade. After completing studies in Ecclesiastical History and Historical Theology at the University of Edinburgh, he held positions at the University of Aberdeen, the University of Edinburgh and Trinity College Dublin.

Recently appointed as Lecturer in Church History and Historical Theology, Scott also acts as Director of Postgraduate Studies. His research focuses on religious identity and the formation of community in early modern Britain, Ireland and the Atlantic colonies. In 2007, his doctoral dissertation was published as Cromwell and Scotland: Conquest and Religion, 1650–1660. He serves as a council member of the Scottish Church History Society.

X Pastoral Assistant

Agnes Hamilton

Agnes joined the staff of BBC in September 2010, having previously worked in the Civil Service for twenty five years. For many years Agnes has had a passion for providing care and discipleship through one–to–one pastoral mentoring to women and, in recent years has worked as a part–time volunteer in this area. Having completed the BBC Pastoral Care course in 2009–10, she joined the Community Life Team of the college, which provides pastoral care to students.

 

 

X Lecturer in Old Testament Studies

Tchavdar Hadjiev BD (Lon), MTh (Wales), DPhil (Ox)

Tchavdar (’Charlie’) is originally from Sofia, Bulgaria and joined the teaching staff in 2011, specialising in Old Testament Studies. He studied law in Sofia, theology in London and completed a doctoral dissertation at Oxford which was published in 2009 as The Composition and Redaction of the Book of Amos (BZAW 393; Walter de Gruyter).

Charlie worked for a number of years for the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES) first as a General Secretary of the Bulgarian student movement and then as a member of the European IFES Regional Team. He taught Old Testament at the Bulgarian Evangelical Theological Institute and served as the Academic Dean of the United Theological Faculty. His research interests include the Minor Prophets and the Exodus tradition as well as the interplay between synchronic and diachronic approaches to Biblical interpretation. He is married to Tsveta and they have two children, Boriana and Alex.

Cynthia Bennett Brown BA, MCS, PhD (QUB)

 

Cindy is originally from the United States, though since 1995 she has worked and studied in France and Canada as well as Northern Ireland. She joined the staff at BBC in 2011 as Lecturer in Systematic and Philosophical Theology, having completed a PhD on the theological methodology of Emil Brunner at Queen’s University Belfast.

Her teaching and research interests include: the historical development of doctrine, theology as wisdom, and the relationship between faith and dogmatics. Along with lecturing Cindy is also Director of Access Learning at BBC. She is a member of the Society for the Study of Theology, a board member for Southern Theological Seminaries (Argentina), and is involved in the Religious Studies Forum at Queen’s University. She is married to Martin, with whom she enjoys sampling international cuisine, dabbling in ancient history, and watching episodes of The West Wing.

 

 

 

 

 

X Practical Training Co–ordinator

Elaine Adams BA, MEd, BD (QUB)

Elaine joined the staff at BBC in 2010, in the role of Practical Training Co–ordinator. She also teaches a module in Family Ministry, as part of the UOC undergraduate programme. Elaine’s academic background has taken a number of routes, having completed a BA in English and Modern Languages, an MEd in Guidance and Counselling and a BD, through BBC and Queen’s University, Belfast.

Elaine’s role deals primarily with all aspects of the practical placements completed by BBC students.

She has been married to Norman for 29 years, and they have two grown up children. She worships at Elmwood Presbyterian Church in Lisburn. 

X PA to the Principal

Susanne Sneddon

Susanne joined the staff of in September 2011 as Personal Assistant to the Principal. Before joining the college, Susanne worked for Queen’s University Belfast, having previously studied Geography at the University of Edinburgh and worked as a PA in London.

Susanne is married to Ian and lives in Hillsborough, where they currently attend St Malachy’s Church of Ireland. They have two grown up sons, both at university. In her spare time Susanne enjoys reading, movies, music, baking and long walks on the beach.

 

 

 

X Bursar

Philip Campbell

Upon completion of a Maths & Physics Degree at Queens (BSc), Philip spent 4 years working for an accountancy firm in Belfast. Upon attaining his Chartered Accountant qualifications (ACA), Philip went on to work briefly as a cost accountant for a manufacturing company before joining the BBC staff in Jan 2011. His role as bursar involves assisting with the financial aspects of College life.

 Outside of BBC, Philip is a youth leader in Larne Mission Hall and a member of the praise team in Larne Church Of The Nazarene.

 

 

 

X IT Support Officer

Ian Sneddon

Ian has worked part–time at BBC since April 2011 as IT Support Officer. Prior to joining BBC he worked for 8 years for MPL Corporation in America developing distance learning and interactive training materials for a wide variety of corporate and federal clients. He has a BA Honours degree in Visual Communications, a Diploma in Business Management from the Chartered Management Institute and is currently studying for the Project Management Professional Certification from the Project Management Institute as well as Microsoft Certification.

He is married to Susanne and they have two grown–up sons. They currently live in Hillsborough and attend St Malachy’s Church of Ireland. In his free time Ian is senior coach at Mid–Down Fencing Club and is a member of the Gideons International.

Ronnie Trimble

Ronnie joined the staff at BBC in 2009, in the role of Maintenance Assistant, which he combines with being self–employed. He lives in Drumbeg with his wife Heather, and son and daughter. He currently worships at the Crescent Church. 

X Admissions Officer

Sheryl Smith

Sheryl joined the staff at BBC in September 2011, in the role of Admissions Officer. Sheryl’s role involves guiding students through the applications process before coming to the college. Before joining the staff, Sheryl previously worked for a certification body in the agricultural and food industry. She is married to Ross and is a member of Causeway Coast Vineyard’s Lisburn Campus.

X Enquiries Assistant

Alistair McCracken

Alistair joined the staff at BBC in March 2011, having previously completed a Masters in Theology through the college and Queen’s University, Belfast. Before joining the staff team, Alistair worked in recruitment and promotions for Interserve Ireland.

listair’s role involves assisting with the processing of enquiries and applications for full and part time courses as well as other general administration in the Recruitment and Communications office. Alistair lives in east Belfast and belongs to Stormont Presbyterian Church, and is involved in pastoral care and prayer ministry. Alistair enjoys music, reading, the outdoors, visiting new places at home and overseas and all types of food!

Lyndsay joined the staff in January 2011 after working for 5 years with OMF International.  She is Centre Administrator within Centre for Youth Ministry Ireland and is responsible for provision of general administrative support to staff and students undertaking the BA Honours Degree in Youth & Community Work and Practical Theology

Jill Gamble Keay

Jill joined the staff of BBC in 2008 and works within the Education Support Team.

A native of Bangor, Co Down, Jill gained an MA in French from the University of St Andrews and a PGCE from Queen’s University. After teaching in England, France and Japan for several years, she returned to St Andrews in 1997 to begin a career in university administration. A couple of years after taking up her post as Postgraduate and Research Secretary in the School of English at St Andrews, she met Robert Keay, a PhD student (and former figure skater) from New England who was studying in the nearby School of Divinity. Bob and Jill were married in St Andrews in 2002, and moved to N Ireland when Bob was offered a permanent lectureship at Belfast Bible College.

Jill is the QUB@BBC Administrator at Belfast Bible College, and supports the work of the Directors of QUB Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies, currently Bob and Scott. She also looks after the administration of CCEA courses.  Bob and Jill live in Lisburn, where they worship at Lisburn Cathedral. They enjoy long walks by the sea in Bangor and on the North Antrim Coast, and relaxing at Mousam Lake in Maine.
