Old Testament Historical Books

A walk through the OT books of Joshua to Esther, from the conquest of the Land of Canaan, through the days of the Judges and Kings, to the exile and the eventual return of God's people to the Promised Land. We will examine the historical background, content and message of each book, and their relevance for us today.

Year Two

The Book of Romans

One writer said, there is no saying what may happen when people begin to study the letter to the Romans, and thousands of Christians through the centuries would agree with him. As we journey through this letter we'll discover why Paul could say that he was not ashamed of the gospel. What is this gospel message that so gripped him and that continues to transform lives today? Romans leads us from the darkest depths of sin to the beauty of a life surrendered to God via the redeeming power of the cross of Christ and the transforming work of the Spirit of God.

The Book of Acts

A practical study of the gripping story of Acts. Ordinary people empowered by the Spirit turn their world upside down as the gospel is taken from Jerusalem, to Judea and Samaria, throughout Asia and Macedonia, and eventually to Rome. We will study the impact that this had on the early church and its relevance for us today.

Introduction to Mission

This course attempts to gain a full understanding of God's mission in the world in Scripture, in the history of the church and in today’s world. Key areas include Mission and the Bible, Mission and Church History and Mission Today. The course inspires us all to connect to what God is doing through ordinary people locally and globally.

Poetic & Wisdom Literature

In the middle of the Old Testament, sandwiched between the historical books and the prophets, lie five books of poetry and wisdom.  These books give us words to praise God, inspire us to confidence in His faithfulness, teach us guiding principles for life's decisions, and point to purpose in life’s joys and pains.  In every high and low of life and with every twist and turn of our journey the Psalms and the wisdom books will connect our hearts to God and shine His light upon our paths.

Pastoral Care

To show the importance of Biblical Pastoral Care and the place it has in the church with so many needy, hurting people.Part of the course is practical eg. how to listen, helping us to understand ourselves so that we can understand other people.

The Book of John

"I have never read a book written in simpler words than this one and yet the words are inexpressible."  This is how Martin Luther described the Gospel of John, the last gospel to be written to a changing church. Over this module we trace its main themes and encounter humanity and deity woven together in person of Jesus.

Christian Ethics

A study of the roots of Christian ethics in the Old Testament through the Ten Commandments, worked out in the Sermon on the Mount and Paul's ethics. The module also explores the challenge of living out our faith today and dealing with difficult issues, such as, divorce, abortion, Sunday observance and homosexuality.

Old Testament Prophets

This course gives an introduction to the Old Testament prophets. It starts by looking at general questions (What is a prophet? When were the prophets? How did they prophesy?) It then moves on to a brief introduction to the major prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel). It concludes by thinking briefly about how we deal with the prophets and prophecy today.

Church History

The Reformation & The Evangelical Revivals

In this course, we look first at why studying our history is important.  Then we move to the Reformation period and the Evangelical Revivals of the C18th.  The emphasis is on connecting with and learning from those who have gone before us so that we may serve Christ better in our own day.
